Breach in Kosi river embankment near Nepal on 18th August, 2008 led to extensive inundation in Madhepura, Purnia, Supaul, Saharsa, Araria, Katihar and Khagaria districts of Bihar. Madhepura and Supaul were the worst affected districts. Flood situation due to breach is being closely monitored by Disaster Management Support Division (DMSD), NRSC using Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) and Radarsat satellite datasets under ISRO-Disaster Management Support (DMS) Programme. Till date more than 20 datasets have been analysed and the flood situation is being monitored further. The information generated is being provided to the concerned departments.
