National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) is one of the centres of Indian Space Research Organisation under the Department of Space, Govt. of India, engaged in operational remote sensing activities. The operational use of remote sensing data span wide spectrum of themes which include water resources, agriculture, soil and land degradation, mineral exploration, groundwater targeting, geomorphologic mapping, coastal and ocean resources monitoring, environment, ecology and forest mapping, land use and land cover mapping and urban area studies, large scale mapping, etc.
The chief activities of NRSC are satellite data and aerial data reception, data processing, data dissemination, applications for providing value added services and training and distribution of date from foreign satellites RADARSAT, IKONOS, QUICKBIRD and ORBVIEW.
NRSC has its own ground station at Shadnagar, 60 Km south of Hyderabad to acquire remote sensing satellite data from the Indian Remote Sensing satellites, the latest being Cartosat-1 (IRS-P5), and other foreign satellites like LandSat, NOAA, ERS, TERRA and AQUA..
Two modern Aircraft (Beach Craft 200) having INS, K-GPS fitted with Multi-spectral Scanner, Photogrammetric Cameras, SAR, Electromagnetic Sensors are available for aerial remote sensing.
NRSC has acquired the capability to design, develop, deploy and operationalize multi-sensor satellite based ground systems comprising of ground and application segments to meet domestic and international requirements.
The acquired data are being processed in-house, churning out variety of data products for distribution among the user community. Apart from data supply, it has the capability to undertake projects in a variety of disciplines.
NRSC has organized training activities to train professionals, scientists as well as decision makers on Remote Sensing and GIS. A dedicated training center, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, located at Dehra Dun gives PG Diploma course of 10-months to 4-days decision makers courses. The NRSC Headquarters at Hyderabad has a Training Division, which organizes similar training courses as well as custom made courses. NRSC has collaboration with ITC, The Netherlands for training.
NRSC is a one-stop center for all the users remote sensing data solutions. |
